High energy physics experiments, such as ATLAS and CMS at the LHC, are collecting petabytes of data. This data needs to be moved to the computing facilities that are distributed around the world. High-speed networks are currently used to move the data but as the size of the data samples continue to grow, it is critical that we develop faster networks. Emerging technologies such as OpenFlow can enable new modes of operation for specialized networks such as the LHCONE.
